August 23, 2024

Stage2WaterRestrictions

As our area continues to experience low rainfall and high temperatures, water demand has increased, creating a strain on the district’s distribution system.

Starting Monday, August 26th, mandatory water-use restrictions under Stage 2 of the Drought Contingency Plan will go into effect for all Elm Ridge WCID residents.

What does this mean for me?

  • Outdoor irrigation is restricted to one time per week between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m.

    • Customers with addresses ending in an even number can water on SUNDAYS.

    • Customers with addresses ending in an odd number can water on WEDNESDAYS

  • Irrigation of landscaped areas and building foundations is permitted for a maximum of two hours on any day by hand-held hose, drip irrigation or soaker hose systems.

  • The establishment of new sod and other landscaping plants is prohibited.

  • Customers may not use water for recreation (water used for leisure and entertainment purposes).

  • Customers may not fill, drain, and refill existing swimming pools, wading pools, Jacuzzis and hot tubs except to maintain structural integrity, proper operation and maintain or to alleviate a public safety risk. Pools may be refilled to replace water lost through evaporation. No new pool permits will be permitted.

  • Customers may not operate ornamental fountains or ponds that use potable water except where supporting aquatic life or water quality.

  • Hosing off or power washing paved areas, buildings, windows or other hard surfaces is prohibited. (Normal window washing is okay.)

  • Washing or rinsing of vehicles is restricted to the premises of a commercial car wash.

These mandatory water use restrictions may be enforced by any combination of warnings, suspension of service, monetary penalties, citations, and fees. The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.
