Fire Election FAQs

Fire Election FAQs

Q: What is the May 7, 2022 “Fire Election” I keep hearing about?

A:  The Fire Election is for voter approval that would allow the Town of Prosper to provide fire protection services to the Artesia community from the nearby Prosper Fire Station No. 2 located at 1140 South Teel Parkway.

Q. Who votes in the Fire Election?

A: All eligible voters of Denton County Fresh Water Supply District No. 10 (the “Water District”) can vote.

Q: What developments are part of the Water District?

A: The Water District includes the Savannah, Artesia, and Arrowbrooke developments.

Q: So even if I live in Savannah and Arrowbrooke I am still eligible to vote on the Artesia Fire Plan?

A: Yes

Q: Why is the Fire Election necessary?

A:  Texas State law requires that a new fire protection services agreement be approved by eligible voters in an election.

Q: If I vote in favor of the Fire Election, how does this impact me if I live in Savannah and Arrowbrooke?

A:   Savannah and Arrowbrooke will NOT see a change in service and will NOT see a change in the monthly rate for fire protections services. Currently, the Water District contracts for fire protection and emergency services with the City of Aubrey for all 3 developments and are primarily served out of the Aubrey Fire Station located at 2020 Navo Road. Savannah and Arrowbrooke will continue to be served by the Aubrey Fire Station at 2020 Navo Road due to its proximity to Savannah and Arrowbrooke.

Q: How does this impact me if I live in Artesia?

A:  As stated, Aubrey currently provides fire protection and emergency services primarily out of the Aubrey Fire Station located at 2020 Navo Road.  This Fire Station is located approximately 5 miles from Artesia.  The proposed Prosper Fire Station in the Fire Election is located at 1140 South Teel Parkway, in much closer proximity to Artesia as it is less than a mile from the entrance to Artesia. In addition, the location of the Prosper Fire Station could positively impact an Artesia homeowner’s insurance policy.  Due to the cost for Prosper to provide fire and emergency services, Artesia residents will see an increase of $1.05 per month on the fire line item of their utility bill.

Q: So if I vote in favor of the Fire Election then I am voting to approve Prosper to provide fire and emergency services to Artesia from the nearby Prosper Fire Station?

A: Yes

Q: When is the Election?

A: Election Day is May 7, 2022.  Early Voting takes place April 25, 2022 through May 3, 2022.

Q. Where can I vote?

A:  You can vote at any polling location in Denton County if you Early Vote.  Voting the day of the Election on May 7, 2022 must be done at your assigned precinct.  Please check your voter registration to determine what precinct you are in and where you vote.  Generally, Savannah and Arrowbrooke residents will vote in this election at Union Park Elementary, while Artesia residents will vote at Prosper Fire Station No. 2.  Keep in mind that this does not guarantee that your precinct votes at these locations.  You should confirm your precinct and location.

Q: Are there any other measures on the Election ballot?

A: Yes, you will also be eligible to vote in the election for 2 Directors to serve on the Water District’s Board of Directors.  The Board of Directors consists of 5 elected Directors and during this election cycle 2 of those Director seats are up for election.  On the ballot you will see 4 candidates running for the 2 Directors seats.

Q: What if I have more questions about this Fire Election?

A: If you have further questions, please contact the Water District office at 469-296-1026.
